About SteelReady

SteelReady Engineering is a structural design and engineering firm focused exclusively on foundation design for pre-engineered/pre-fabricated metal buildings (PEMB). We serve dealers, erectors, and general contractors across the country.

We are a proprietary, tech-driven firm built from the ground up around a single idea: that a focused foundation engineering practice, supported by modern tools and disciplined process, can deliver a quality of service the industry has not yet seen. We are building that firm deliberately, and we are hiring the people who will define it.

The Role

We are looking for a licensed professional engineer or structural engineer to serve as the engineer of record on SteelReady foundation packages. You will own engineering review and stamp authority, the two stages of our workflow where professional judgment is most important.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing completed foundation design packages for accuracy, code compliance, and engineering judgment.
  • Verifying designs against supplied loads, geotechnical reports, and applicable building codes.
  • Signing off on the PE Review Sheet and applying your seal to released packages.
  • Partnering with the design team to continually improve the quality and consistency of our work product.
  • Pursuing comity licensure in additional states as the firm's footprint expands.

Required Qualifications

  • Active PE license in at least three U.S. states, in good standing.
  • Active NCEES Record, or willingness to establish one within 30 days of hire. This is central to how we scale, so please take this requirement seriously.
  • 5 – 8 years of post-PE structural experience, with a meaningful portion spent designing or reviewing foundations for pre-engineered metal buildings.
  • Demonstrated PEMB foundation experience. You are familiar with manufacturer reaction packages, base shear and uplift design, anchorage to concrete, and the practical considerations that distinguish a buildable foundation from a textbook one.
  • Working knowledge of governing codes: IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318 (including Chapter 17 anchorage), IBC Chapter 18, and the MBMA Metal Building Systems Manual.
  • Clean record with every licensing board in which you hold a license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • California PE license. A significant plus, and a factor in compensation.
  • Existing licenses in additional high-volume PEMB states (TX, FL, GA, NC, OH, PA, IL, AZ, CO, WA) is a significant advantage, with compensation scaled based on the breadth and strategic value of licenses held.
  • Willingness and openness to embrace modern, rapidly evolving tools and workflows. The engineering profession is changing, and we are building SteelReady to take advantage of that change rather than resist it. We are looking for engineers who are genuinely curious about better ways to practice, without compromising on professional rigor or ethical responsibility.
  • Experience reviewing drawing sets and calculation packages produced by design tools rather than solely hand calculations.
  • Prior exposure to helical pile, drilled pier, or other deep foundation systems in addition to shallow spread footings.
  • Experience with reaction packages from Nucor, VP Buildings, Ceco, Metallic, or similar PEMB manufacturers.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $110,000 – $125,000 depending on experience and licensure footprint.
  • Performance bonus. Structure and eligibility discussed during the interview process.
  • Health benefits, PTO, and retirement consistent with a professional engineering firm.
  • 100% remote. No relocation required.

How to Apply

Complete the application below. You will be asked to provide:

  • Résumé or CV
  • A list of every state in which you are currently licensed, including license numbers
  • Confirmation of your NCEES Record status
  • A short note describing a PEMB foundation project you stamped and one key engineering judgment you made

We are a family-rooted, fast-moving team. Every application is reviewed carefully, and every applicant receives a response.

SteelReady Engineering is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on competence, judgment, and character.
